LADY BEARCATS OPEN UP 2004 SEASON WITH TWO VICTORIES

BOLIVAR, MO. .... The 2004 softball season is underway at Southwest Baptist University claimed both games from Missouri Baptist to start the season at 2-0. SBU won the first game, 3-1, and then took the second game, 7-3. Game One
Freshman Cara Gaskins received the opening day start and went the distance for SBU. She struck out 10 batters in her first collegiate start.
SBU scored their first run in the first when Devon Dunkin came home on a passed ball. They then scored two more in the second for their three runs.
Cheratin Dunn went three-of-four to lead SBU in hits while Jackie Vaughan and Cassi Haines each picked up a RBI.
Game Two
In game two, SBU jumped out to a 2-0 lead only to see MBU tie the game at two in the top of the second. Then, in the bottom of the second, SBU took over the game with two more runs for a 4-2 lead. MBU cut the lead to one in the third but SBU put up two more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth for a 7-3 win.
Chrissie Gliedt recorded the win while Kylie Savas had the save.
Vaughan and Lacey McGuire each had two hits for SBU. Vaughan's one hit was a homerun and she finished the game with four RBIs.
SBU will be back in action on February 23rd when they travel to Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to take on Henderson State University at 2 p.m.
