NO. 10 SBU HONORS ABOUND

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – No. 10 Southwest Baptist (24-5) received huge honors at the NCAA Division II National Championship banquet Wednesday night in Altamonte Springs, Fla. The awards were presented by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Head Coach John Bryant was named the North Central Region Coach of the Year after taking his Bearcats to a 23-5 record before Thursday. Bryant is in his 37th year at the helm of the Bearcats.

No. 40 Dante Cipulli was named the North Central Region Rookie of the Year for his efforts in 2002-03. Cipulli entered the Sweet Sixteen with a 20-3 record this season in singles. In doubles, he is 25-2 this season with his partner Johan Nortje.

No. 9 Andras Bori was named the North Central Region Arthur Ashe/ITA Leadership and Sportsmanship Award. Bori entered the week with an 18-3 record in singles and a 24-2 record in doubles. He and his partner, Mark Eori, are ranked No. 5 in the nation in doubles. Bori won the North Central Region Rookie of the Year Award last season.

The Senior Player of the Year for the North Central Region went to Northwest Missouri State’s Jon Sanchez while the Player to Watch was John Johnson of Washburn.
