For Immediate Release 8 April 2003
BEAVERTON,
Ore. Southwest Baptists Amber Wheeler has been
named to the 2003 Womens Division II Bulletin All-Freshman
Team.
Only 10 freshmen from around the country received the All-American
status. Wheeler was the only Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics
Association freshman to receive the award this season. Teammate,
and outgoing senior, Allison Ramirez received the honor in
2000.
Amber has proven to be a special player for us,
said SBU Head Coach Jim Middleton. Its rare that
a freshman leads a team in scoring. We feel its an honor
that she received this award. Its quite an honor when
you are only one of 10 freshmen in the United States to be
recognized.
Wheeler led the team with 15.7 points per game. She averaged
2.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals a game. She had a
.383 three-point field goal percentage, a .427 field goal

Year award on March 2.

in a win over Harding on Dec. 14, 2002.
The freshman ended the season as the No. 6 scorer in the MIAA.
