The Southwest
Baptist football team will play its annual Purple and White
Game on Saturday, April 26 at 1:30 p.m. in Plaster Stadium.
Everyone is invited to attend. The Bearcats will also host
their annual football banquet at 6 p.m. Saturday in McClelland
Dining Hall on the SBU campus. Tickets are $8 and can be reserved
by calling (417) 328-1787. Deadline for reserved seating is
Thursday, April 24 at noon. Remaining tickets may be purchased
at the door.
The intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday will end the 2003 spring
practice season for the Bearcats. Head Coach Ray Richards
is happy with the way spring drills have been going this season.
“We’ve been really working on the fundamentals of
football,” Richards said. We have been working on our
base offense and defense and are just trying to build on our
foundation. The kids are continuing to learn what to do and
what not to do within our system. If we can come in in the
fall knowing all that, then we will be able to add all the
other things we need to add.”
This is Richards’ third spring season at the helm of
the Bearcats and looks forward to what could be a productive
season in 2003.
“The spring is going well,” Richards said. “It’s
the best spring we have had since I have been here. I think
we are way ahead of where we have been the last two years.
The kids are making some good progress and we are executing
better than what we have in the past. We are still in that
growing process and I feel really good about it.”
