LAWRENCE,
Kan. Southwest Baptist freshman T.Jay Sanderson
has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II National
Championships to be held May 22-24 in Edwardsville, Ill.
Sanderson ran a 3:52.82 in the 1,500-meter run on Friday to
set a new school record and to provisionally qualify for the
national meet. With that time, Sanderson is now the fastest
freshman in NCAA Division II at this distance.
T. Jay ran an outstanding race with good tactics and
a great last 400 meters, said SBU Head Coach Mark Misch.
This race was set up well for him to run fast and he
is right were he needs to be two weeks from the MIAA meet
and five weeks for the NCAA meet.
Also running in the Kansas Relays last weekend was Clint Davis.
Davis won the 3,000-meter Steeplechase with a time of 9:43.95.
Davis led the race wire to wire and should be ready for a
strong conference run in two weeks.
Both men will run 1,200 meters in the Drake Relays on Saturday,
April 26 as part of a distance medley relay. Also running
for the Bearcats in the relay will be Brandon Sherrer (400
meters), Davis (800 meters) and Jon Clemence (1,600 meters).
The race will be at 1:33 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.
