BASEBALL TO HOST trUMAN

The Southwest Baptist baseball team is scheduled to close the 2003 home schedule this weekend when they host Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association foe Truman for a three-game series. The Bearcats will play TSU in one nine-inning game on Friday, April 18 at 3 p.m. The two teams will then play two games on Saturday, April 19 at noon.

The Bearcats enter the weekend with an 8-28 overall record. SBU is 3-15 in MIAA action after splitting with Pittsburg State in Pittsburg, Kan. on Tuesday (3-12 and 8-7).

The Bearcats are led by Jesse Dziurawiec at the plate with a .301 batting average. Second in hitting is Tyson Shields (.296), who leads the team in doubles (12), hits (34) and is second in RBI (18). Sheilds and teammate Cody Bales (.281) are tied for the team lead in runs with 22. Leading the team in RBI is Caleb Stark (.278). The team is batting .249 this season.

The Bearcats are led on the mound by Tanner Rust (3-5) with a 7.77 ERA. He has seen 46.1 innings of action and is tied for strikeouts with Drew Osborne (1-5) at 37. The Bearcats have a team ERA of 10.54.

Truman enters the week with a 3-28 overall record. The Bulldogs are 0-17 in the MIAA and have dropped their last five outings. They are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Missouri Western on Wednesday, Feb. 16.

The Bulldogs are led by Adam Davis at the plate with an batting average of .358. He leads the team with seven doubles and three triples. Patrick Hardin is the only other TSU player above .300 hitting .347. He leads the team in runs (18), hits (34) and RBI (26). TSU is batting .259 as a team this season.

On the hill, Rory Geissler leads the team with a 3.68 ERA in 14.2 innings of action. The three wins belong to Dan Hillen (7.71), Colin Spillenkothen (9.42) and Jesse Bohlmeyer (13.21). Brant Kraner (10.80) leads the team with 17 strikeouts this season. The team has an ERA of 9.89.

This weekend’s doubleheader was scheduled as the last home dates of the season. However, anticipated makeup dates are expected for at least one of the home dates that had been postponed due to inclement weather.
