Southwest
Baptist softball will travel to Kansas this weekend for a
pair of Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association
doubleheaders.
The Bearcats will play at Emporia State in Emporia, Kan. on
Friday, April, 11. The doubleheader is scheduled for a 3 p.m.
start. On Saturday, April 12, the Bearcats will play at Washburn
in Topeka, Kan. beginning at noon.
SBU enters the weekend with a 3-19 overall record. The Bearcats
are 2-6 in the MIAA after dropping doubleheaders to Missouri
Western and Northwest Missouri State last weekend. SBU has
dropped its last five outings.
The Bearcats are led at the plate by senior Teri McKay with
a .304 batting average. She also leads the team with 69 at
bats, 21 hits, two homeruns, 10 RBI and .449 slugging percentage.
She is tied with freshman Cheratin Dunn in runs with six apiece.
Second in hitting is freshman Kyleigh Savas with a .293 batting
average. Second in hits is senior Christy Capner with 18.
SBU is averaging .220 at the plate this season.
In the circle, SBU is led by Savas (0-8) with a 6.04 ERA.
She has seen 44.2 innings of action and is second on the team
with 19 strikeouts. Junior Cassi Haines (1-0) is second on
the team in ERA (6.41) with 26.2 innings pitched. Capner (2-7)
leads the team with 22 strikeouts and has seen 47.2 innings
of work. The team has an ERA of 7.20.
Emporia State enters the contests 22-9 overall, 4-0 in MIAA
action. The team has defeated conference foes Washburn and
Pittsburg State.
ESU is led at the plate by Megan Beattie with a .409 batting
average. She leads the team with 23 runs, 38 hits, 25 RBI
and nine doubles. Kelly Gartner is second on the team with
a .308 batting average. The team is averaging .259 from the
plate this season.
The Lady Hornets are led by Melissa Stevens (9-1) with a 1.47
ERA. She has pitched in 71.1 innings and has recorded a team-high
67 strikeouts. Deb Potter (8-5) has seen the most action with
82.0 innings of work and has an ERA of 2.48. ESU has a team
ERA of 2.21.
Washburn enters the weekend with a 21-10 overall record and
is 1-3 in MIAA action. The Lady Blues lone conference
win came in a split with Northwest Missouri State earlier
this season. WU lost to Emporia State in two MIAA contests.
Tiffany Whitt leads the team in hitting with a .369 batting
average. She also is tops on the squad with 24 runs, 38 hits
and adds 14 RBI. Also hitting above the .300 mark is Julie
Blaufuss (.319) and Dara Clouse (.307). Clouse leads the team
in RBI with 22 this season. Washburn is batting .282 as a
team this season.
The Lady Blues are led in the circle by Katie Gregg with a
0.93 ERA. She is 12-4 this season and has seen 112.1 innings
of action. The only other pitcher on the WU roster is Ashley
Perkins. Perkins has a 1.24 ERA and is 9-6 this season in
101.2 innings of work. Both ladies have recorded 83 strikeouts
and have a combined ERA of 1.08.
Washburn defeated SBU on March 18 in Orlando, Fla., 10-0 in
five innings.
