For Immediate Release 5 February 2002
For the
first time in his two-year reign at Southwest Baptist University,
Head Football Coach Ray Richards has announced commitments
on signing day. Six high school student-athletes have signed
National Letters-of-Intent.
This class is full of very good football players,
Richards said. As a group, it is the best recruiting
class we have had.
Heading the class of 2003 is Springfield Kickapoo senior Eric
Sanderson. Sanderson is a 6-1, 185-pound quarterback, helped
his team to a 6-3 overall finish. The Chiefs were 6-1 in the
Ozark conference.
The other five signees for SBU this year are from the state
of Texas.
Brad Hill, a 6-1, 255-pound defensive tackle from The Colony,
Texas; Darrell Porter, a 6-2, 265-pound defensive tackle from
Azle, Texas; Michael Rogers, a 6-4, 255-pound offensive lineman
from Whitehall, Mont.; Nick Vaughn, a 6-1, 290-pound offensive
lineman from The Colony, Texas; and Michael Forda, a 5-8,
170-pound cornerback from Irving, Texas, have all-signed to
play at SBU starting next fall.
We have about another 10 or so pending that should let
us know something by next week, Richards said. This
class is full of good players and solid students. They give
great effort and play hard. I am excited about them.
The last two years, Richards had not received any letters-of-intent
on signing day. In 2001, Richards had been on the job just
two days. In 2002, the Bearcat football staff had evaluated
the talent, but were still talking with several potential
student-athletes.
