JOPLIN
The mens track and field team from Southwest
Baptist competed in the Baymont Inn/Fazolis Open Invitational
in Joplin on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8.
T. Jay Sanderson highlighted the mens meet for SBU when
he finished fourth in the mile with a time of 4:17.70. Also
competing in the mile was Clint Davis (4:30.63), Austin Bunn
(4:36.63) and Brandon Sherrer (4:45.41).
Ivan Peterson ran a 7.22 in the 60-meter and won his heat
and David Sepanski ran a 7.24 in the 60-meter run, finishing
fourth in his heat. There were 14 heats in the race, and neither
qualified for the finals.
In the 200-meter run, Sepanski finished with a time of 23.64
while Peterson finished with a time of 24.18.
Sanderson finished in 14th in the 800-meter run with a time
of 1:58.58. Joe Wieschhaus also competed in the 800-meter
race and finished in 2:23.36.
Jon Clemence finished in 10th place in the 5,000-meter race
with a time of 15:54.45. Also competing in the 5,000-meter
run was John Harris (16:31.43), Michael Haub (16.40.95) and
Tom Miner (16:40.95).
Peterson finished in ninth in the mens triple jump after
jumping 43 feet 4.25 inches on his second attempt. The triple
jump competition was Petersons first triple jump since
1998.
The women were led by Karen Sanckens fifth place finish
in the 5,000 meters. She finished with a time of 18:54.14.
Jackie Dunn finished the race in seventh place with a time
of 19:09.87. Also competing in the 5,000-meter run was Christine
Showler (19:58.81), Jenny Doke (20:04.64), Susan Greer (21:30.26)
and Erika Anderson (21:36.75).
Jenni Duren competed in her first 60-meter dash and finished
with a time of 8.89 on Saturday.
The SBU track teams return to action on Feb. 13-14 at the
Central Missouri State Mule Relays in Warrensburg.
