Southwest Baptists mens tennis players
Mark Eori and Andras Bori will be honored by the Missouri
Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, Feb. 16 at the annual induction
ceremony.
The Bearcat duo will receive a Missouri Sports Achievement
Award in recognition of the NCAA Division II national championship
the two won on Oct. 18, 2002 at the Omni Hotels National Small
College Tennis Championships at the H.E.B. Tennis Center in
Corpus Christi, Texas.
The two Bearcat juniors defeated Ferris State's (Mich.) Jason
Cole and Jan Talian 8-2 in the final.
On Thursday, Oct. 17, the duo picked up two wins during the
opening day to reach the final. They topped Armstrong Atlantic
State's (Ga.) Dale White and Achim Roth 8-6 in the semifinals
and Aloke Bhide and Mukundan Nandakumar of Kutztown (Pa.)
8-5 in the opening round.
The SBU pair won the North Central Region tournament in September
to advance to the national tournament in doubles.
Bori, a 5-10 junior from Csondgrad, Hungary, finished third
nationally in singles at the tournament. He is an international
business major with a 3.9 grade point average. He is a member
of the NCAA Division II All-America Team.
Eori, a 6-5 junior from Gyor, Hungary, is ranked 19th nationally
in singles. He has a 3.85 GPA in international business and
is a member of the NCAA Division II All-America Team.
Going into the 2003 spring season, the SBU team is ranked
No. 1 in the North Central Region and No. 13 nationally. The
team is one of seven Academic All-American teams nationally
and is coached by John Bryant.
