Southwest
Baptists womens basketball team will host Harding
on Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. in Davison Field House.
The Lady Bearcats are coming off an 82-50 victory over Southern
Arkansas on Saturday, Dec. 7. The win marked the 10th straight
home opening win for SBU.
SBU was led by Alicia Mercer with 19 points. Both Gwyn Smith
and Allison Davis had double-doubles for SBU. Both had 10
rebounds each and Smith had 15 points while Davis had 11.
Also scoring 11 for the Lady Cats was Amber Wheeler.
SBU shot .492 from the field on Saturday, .444 from the three-point
arc and .636 from the charity stripe.
Wheeler leads the Lady Cats in scoring this season.
The freshman is averaging 14.8 points per game. Davis is second
on the team in points with 14.0 points per game. Also averaging
in double figures for SBU are Alicia Mercer (10.5) and Gwyn
Smith (10.). Smith leads the team with 8.0 rebounds per game.
SBU is averaging .449 from the field, .417 from the arc and
.686 from the line this season.
Harding enters the game with a 5-1 record and on a five-game
winning streak. The Lady Bisons defeated Lyons on Saturday,
74-48. HU was led by Kendra Beard with 15 points and Heather
Lawrence with 11 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures
were Tiffany Phillips (12) and Haley Hammond (10).
The Lady Bisons are led by Phillips who is averaging 15.2
points per outing. Julie Hammitt is the only other Harding
player to average in double digits in points. She has 11.2
points per game. Leading the team in rebounding is Lawrence,
who is averaging 11.2 boards per outing.
HU is averaging .407 from the field, .366 from the arc and
.701 from the line so far this season.
The series is tied at one win each. Harding won the first
meeting in the 1988-89 season, 79-66, and SBU won the last
meeting during the 1989-90 season, 71-61.
