MEN TO HOST DRURY TUESDAY

For Immediate Release 2 December 2002

Southwest Baptist’s men’s basketball team will host Drury on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. in Davison Field House.

“Obviously, this is a long-standing rivalry game,” Archer said. “This series has a lot of history, and Drury is in the same situation as we are with injuries. I believe we are two well-matched teams. We are going to have to execute on the offensive end and keep their big men off of the boards. It is a neat series and a neat game that both teams look forward to playing as an early-season non-conference contest. I believe it will be entertaining to all fans.”

The Bearcats (1-3) are coming off a 102-74 win over Harris-Stowe on Saturday.

The men were led in the victory Saturday by Arthur Trousdell with 22 points. He was tied for second in rebounds with Kendrick Jackson. Each had eight boards. SBU was led in rebounding by D.J. Hogue with nine. Ryan Stock was second in points with 21. Stock had his first double-double of the season with 11 assists. Also scoring in double figures were Hogue (17), David Coutchie (15) and Antwan Butler (14). SBU was without Ed Walker and Marcus Jackson who had returned home to Louisiana for a funeral.

Leading the Bearcats this season is Trousdell. He is averaging 15.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per outing. Ryan Stock is second in points with 13.5 per game and is tied with Trousdell in rebounding with 6.5.

Also averaging in double figures for SBU in 2002-03 is David Coutchie (11.8) and Marcus Jackson (10.7).
SBU has shot .435 from the field, .367 from the three-point arc and .725 from the charity stripe this season.

Drury enters the game on a two-game losing streak after dropping both games of the Drury University/Pizza Hut Thanksgiving Classic. DU lost to Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday, 84-77, and to California Baptist on Friday, 101-85.

DU (1-3) was led on Saturday by Chris Mortellaro with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Matt Engstrom ended the game with 10 points. Mortellaro was named to the All-Tournament team.

Leading the Panthers this season is Mortellaro with 21.3 points per outing. He is second on the team in rebounds with 7.5 per game. Maxie Stamps is averaging 16.3 points per game and is tops on the team with 8.0 rebounds per outing. They are the only two Panthers in double figures.

DU has shot .486 from the field, .379 from the arc and .779 from the line.

Drury leads the series, 26-14. However, SBU has won last year’s meeting between the two teams. The Bearcats took a 75-68 decision on Dec. 4, 2001.
