Southwest
Baptists womens basketball team is in the midst
of a three-game road trip when they travel to Tahlequah, Okla.
to face Northeastern State at 2 p.m. on Nov. 30.
SBU (3-0) is coming off a 80-71 win over Southern Arkansas
on Wednesday in Magnolia, Ark. Freshman Amber Wheeler led
the Lady Bearcats with 21 points while junior Alicia Mercer
led SBU with nine rebounds.
Wheeler leads the team this season with 15.7 points per game.
She has hit seven of 14 three pointers and is 15 of 28 from
the field (.536 average).
Mercer is second on the team with 13.0 points per game. She
is second on the team with 5.7 rebounds per game.
Sophomore Gwyn Smith is tops on the team with 7.7 rebounds
per outing. She is third in points with 11.7 points per game.
Senior Allison Davis also has 11.7 points per game this season.
SBU is averaging 81 points per game and is shooting .371 from
the field, .391 from the arc and .700 from the charity stripe.
Northeastern State (Okla.) enters the game with a 3-0 record
as well. They defeated Bacone on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 69-33.
The Lady Reds were ahead 27-17 at the half and outscored Bacone
42-16 in the second period.
NSU defeated Christian Brothers on Friday, Nov. 22, 50-46.
Alicia Keys scored 10 points, including knocking down two
free throws in the final 15 seconds to get the victory. On
Saturday, Nov. 23, the Lady Reds defeated Missouri Southern,
63-52, and used a 20-10 run over the final eight and a half
minutes to win their second game of the season.
Leslie Warner leads the team with 11.0 points per game while
Cara Busson leads the team with 6.3 rebounds per outing. The
team has shot .403 from the field, .300 from beyond the arc
and .556 from the line.
This is the fifth meeting between the two schools. SBU leads
the series, 3-1.
