I thought we had a real nice start, said SBU Head
Coach Jim Middleton. I thought our depth was good and
our pressure defense was good forcing turnovers. Offensively,
we were able to play up-tempo, and a lot of that is because
of the depth we have and the athleticsm we have been able
to utilize this season. It was a good start, but now we have
to focus on the games this week.
In SBUs first two games, they have outscored their opponents
163-123 and have outshot their opponents from the floor, beyond
the three-point arc and from the free throw line. SBU has
shot .477 from the field, .423 from the arc and .682 from
the charity stripe this season.
The Lady Bearcats are led by sophomore Gwyn Smith with 13.0
points per game. Smith had eight points in the season opener
and 18 in Saturdays contest. She also had 10 rebounds
Saturday, giving her her first double-double this season.
She leads the team with 9.0 rebounds per game.
Freshman Amber Wheeler is also averaging 13.0 points per outing.
She has hit four of seven three-pointers. She had 13 points
in both games last weekend.
Also scoring in double figures for SBU are Jenni Jones (12.0)
and Alicia Mercer (10.5). The Lady Cats spread the points
around to 10 different individuals in the first two games
of the season, six of those having at least one double-digit

13 assists in two games. Smith and Allison Davis both lead
the team with six steals each.
