WOMEN'S BASKETBALL INKS ONE

For Immediate Release 20 November 2002

Southwest Baptist’s Head Women’s Basketball Coach Jim Middleton announced the signing of Hollister native Ashley Bishop to a National Letter-of-Intent.

Bishop, a 5-10 guard/forward, has signed to play with the Lady Bearcats starting in the 2003-04 season.
“Ashley has the ability to play multiple positions,” Middleton said. “She has excellent range to 22 feet and is capable of playing inside and posting up as well.”

Bishop averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds last season as a junior. She was a 2001-02 all-state selection and is listed as one of the top 2002-03 recruits in Missouri Class 2A.

“I believe she can be an impact player for us,” Middleton said. “She has the mind of a scorer and she is used to being the leader and go-to person. Plus, she has ample AAU (Amatuer Athletic Union) experience. Finally, she just loves to play. She is constantly in the gym working on her game. Our SBU crowd will enjoy her very much.”

This is the first NLI Middleton has received during the early signing period.
