DUNCAN SELECTED FOR NATIONAL TEAM

For Immediate Release 26 January 2002

AUCKLAND, New Zealand – Southwest Baptist’s Priscilla Duncan has been selected to play on the 2003 New Zealand World Cup Qualifying Team.

The SBU freshman soccer player will travel to Dallas during Spring Break to meet up with her team for two days of training before starting a five-day Texas tour. The squad will face Baylor on March 17, Texas A&M on March 20, Texas on March 23, West Texas A&M on March 26 and Texas Tech on March 29. The team will compete at the Women’s World Cup qualifier in Australia this April.

Duncan, named honorable mention All Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association for her efforts in 2002’s campaign, captained the Under 19 team for New Zealand last summer. She played in 19 games for the Lady Bearcats, scoring one goal and adding an assist.

“I think this is a great opportunity for Priscilla and SBU,” said SBU Head Coach Peter McGovern. “She didn’t have a great year for us, but she was asked to do a lot of things she had never had to do. When I watched her play in New Zealand, she was absolute magic. I believe Priscilla is the best attack player in the country and this experience is going to give her the chance to play in the Division I atmosphere and against some of the best teams in the world in Australia. I believe she will come back with the mindset she is going to dominate in games, and that is going to help both she and us.”

Duncan is one of seven members of the New Zealand national team to make their senior debuts in competition.
