For the third time this season, Cipulli has been named the MIAA Player of the Week. |
OVERLAND PARK, KS. ... For the third time this season, senior Dante Cipulli has been awarded the MIAA Tennis Player of the Week for his play. A 6-foot-1 senior from Tucuman, Argentina, Cipulli went 2-0 in No. 1 singles and 2-0 with partner Johan Nortje in No. 1 doubles for the No. 28 Bearcats last week.
He secured two of SBU's three match wins in a 6-3 setback against No. 8 Drury (Mo.) Thursday (April 7). Cipulli downed Matias Oddone, 6-4, 5-7, 11-9, after he and Nortje picked up an 8-6 win over Oddone and Igor Fejzula.
In helping the Bearcats secure the top seed for the MIAA Tournament with a 6-3 win over Washburn on Friday (April 8), Cipulli and Nortje defeated Rick Vleeshouwers and Rutger Vliegenberg in doubles, 8-6. Cipulli then dispatched Vleeshouwers in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
Cipulli, currently the top-ranked player in Division II according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, is a graduate of Colegio Nacional. SBU is currently 10-9 on the year and 4-0 in the MIAA. They are #28 in the nation and #1 in the North Central Region.
