OVERLAND PARK, KS. ... Picking up his second MIAA Player of the Week award in three weeks is senior Dante Cipulli. He won the first MIAA Player of the Week award for the spring two weeks ago.
Playing No. 1 singles, Cipulli blanked Henrique Tomaz of Northwest Missouri State, 6-0, 6-0, as SBU posted a 6-1 conference win March 21.
He accounted for four of the Bearcats' nine points in the four losses suffered during the California-San Diego Triton Spring Break Challenge.
In singles, Cipulli downed Diego Zorzi of top-ranked West Florida, 7-6, 6-3 March 23 -- following up on Friday (March 25) with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Bryan Swatt of host and 10th-ranked UCSD and a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Sebastian Losuro of No. 3 Barry (Fla.).
Cipulli and doubles partner Johan Nortje added an 8-4 win in the No. 1 flight over UC-San Diego's Brent Molden and Seth Spector.
His singles streak was snapped on Saturday (March 26) with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 loss to Sam Fletcher of Azusa Pacific (Calif.). APU was the No. 2 team in the ITA's NAIA ranking.
