ARKADELPHIA, AR. ... Starting the 2005 season off in Arkansas, the #14 Southwest Baptist University Bearcats (1-0) played to a 6-0 win over Christian Brothers University. They opened their season at Ouachita Baptist University and will play OBU on Saturday at 9 a.m.
SBU opened the first match with two wins in doubles to start the year. In #1 doubles, Peter Joos teamed with sophomore transfer Hunter Emmott for an 8-1 win over Matt Wiseman/Tom Hardin. Brian Harrelson and freshman Brian Bajema teamed up for an 8-0 win over Kyle Kordsmier/Shawn McClean to give SBU the 2-0 lead.
The Bearcats finished off CBU in singles play as they took the top four positions. Peter Joos claimed the #1 singles win over Wiseman, 6-2, 6-1, and then Johan Nortje defeated Hurdin, 6-0, 6-2. In their first match as a Bearcat, Emmott took a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kordsmier and then Bajema won 6-0, 6-0 over McClean.
SBU will face Ouachita Baptist at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
