OVERLAND PARK, KS. ... Four Southwest BaptistUniversity tennis players have been given MIAA awards for their academics. One male and four female athletes will receive the award.
On the men’s side, Brian Harrelson (Lee’s Summit, MO) made the MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll for the third year in a row. He will graduate on May 20 from SBU with a degree in Business.
The men’s team finished their season in the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 and won their third straigth MIAA and North Central Regional Championship.
The SBU women’s tennis team had three players on the honor roll in sophomore Lauren Baer (Kirksville, MO), senior Charlotte Heidelberg (Pascagoula, MS), and junior Valerie Jones (WIchita, KS). Bear has a perfect 4.0 gpa and is majoring in education. Heidelberg will graduate on May 20 with a degree in Biology while Jones is majoring in art.
The women’s team came away with their first winning season in ten years at 12-9 and finished fifth in the MIAA Tournament.
