SBU MAKES SECOND StrAIGHT trIP TO SWEET 16

BOLIVAR, MO. … It was another fun filled at the NCAA Division II North Central Regional Championship as the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats (23-4) captured their second straight championship. They defeated Colorado State University-Pueblo (12-10), 5-0.
The day also brought a milestone for senior Mark Eori as he won his 105th career singles match. That total ties the most wins by a SBU men’s tennis player which is held by Jim Klousia (1972-75) and Charlie Lane (1975-78). Eori defeated Brandon Beauvais in the #2 singles match, 6-1, 6-2.
SBU started the day off with a 3-0 lead in the doubles matches. Andras Bori/Eori and Dante Cipulli/Johan Nortje cruised to wins in the #1 and #2 doubles matches. Bori/Eori won 8-0 over CSU-Pueblo’s Mario Gagliardi and Elliot Schwartz. Cipulli/Nortje then defeated Beauvais/Johan Bodaski, 8-1, for the second point. In a two hour match, Peter Joos and Brian Harrelson won the #3 doubles tie breaker 7-5 to take the match, 9-8.
In singles, Nortje won the first match to give SBU a 4-0 lead. He defeated Ken Vaughan, 6-2, 6-0. Eori then claimed the fifth point for the victory.

This is the second year in a row that SBU will be heading back to Florida for the Sweet 16. Last year, they advanced to the Elite Eight where they were defeated by Barry University.
SBU will face Abilene Christian University in the Sweet 16.
