SPRINGFIELD , MO. ... Looking for bragging rights in the southwest part of Missouri, the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats (4-2) did just that as they upset NCAA Division I Southwest Missouri State University, 4-3.
Opening up in doubles action, SBU only won one of the three matches. Dante Cipulli and Johan Nortje defeated Curcic/Knezevic 9-8 (7-4). Andras Bori/Mark Eori lost to Hanek/Spousta, 8-4, and Garbharran/Pavlicic defeated Peter Joos and Brian Henderson, 8-1.
SBU won the first three matches in singles play as Cipulli, Bori, and Eori won the #1, #2, and #3 position matches. Joos then went on to beat Filip Knezevic, 6-4, 7-5, to take the #5 match.
SBU will now face some stiff competitioin as they travel to Florida and Georgia for their spring break trip and take on a slew of top NCAA Division II schools.
