CIPULLI PICKS UP SECOND MIAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD

Dante Cipulli was given his second MIAA award in four weeks.

OVERLAND PARK, KAN. ... For the fourth week in a row, the Southwest Baptist University men's tennis team has won the MIAA "Player of the Week" award. This week, junior Dante Cipulli picked up his second award in four weeks.

Cipulli was 3-0 in No. 1 singles and 3-0 in No. 2 doubles with Johan Nortje as the No. 13 Bearcats went 2-1.

He earned a singles win over Gareth Dowdell of Rockhurst (Mo.), 6-2, 6-2, on March 30, followed the next day with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Pablo Gimenez of Graceland (Iowa). SBU downed RU, 7-2, and Graceland, 6-3.

On Friday (April 2), Cipulli defended his No. 6 ITA singles ranking in Division II with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 19 Javier Llanes of 10th-ranked Drury (Mo.). With wins in singles and doubles, Cipulli had a hand in two of SBU's three points in the 6-3 loss to the Panthers.

He is currently ranked #6 in the nation at the singles position.
