SBU REMAINS AT #13 IN THE NATION; CIPULLI MOVES UP TO #2 SINGLES IN THE NATION

BOLIVAR, MO. ... In the latest ITA national rankings, the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats have stayed at #13 in the nation. They are currently 13-4 on the year.

With that record, SBU has the #1 ranking in the North Central Region and has beaten both the #2 and #3 teams in Washburn University and Northwest Missouri State, respectively. SBU won the North Central Regional Championship last year and advanced to the Elite Eight.

On the individual side, junior Dante Cipulli has recorded the highest singles ranking for a SBU player since Micheal Obertop was the national champion in 1993. Obertop won the 1993 ITA NCAA Division II singles national championship. This spring, Cipulli is 18-0 and has an overall 2003-04 record of 31-1. His lone loss came in the ITA NCAA Division II singles national championship in Texas. He is also ranked #1 in the North Central Region.

Also being ranked in singles is Mark Eori and Andras Bori. Eori is #26 while Bori is 27 in the nation. Eori has a record of 26-5 and is 16-2 this spring and Bori is 24-7 and 14-4 this spring. In the North Central Region, Eori is #2 and Bori is #3.

On the doubles side, Bori/Eori have the highest ranking at #17 in the nation and #1 in the North Central Region. They have a combined record of 26-8 and are 11-6 in the spring. Ranked #22 in the nation is Cipulli and Johan Nortje. They have a record of 25-4 and 16-2 in the spring. They are also ranked #2 in the North Central Region.

SBU will be at the Broncho Invitational this weekend in Edmond, Oklahoma. They will be playing five matches with the final match against #5 Drury University. Drury defeated SBU earlier this season, 6-3.
