WARRENSBURG
- The Bearcats (9-11, 5-7) were defeated by Central Missouri
State in Warrensburg on Saturday, 84-71.
SBU scored
the first two points of the game on a layup by Ashley McCormick.
SBU led 7-5 with 16:36 left in the first half, but the Mules
went ahead a few minutes later when Jeremy McFall hit a three-pointer
with 14:27 on the clock (14-11).
The Bearcats
chiseled the lead to one with 7:26 remaining in the first
period, but CMSU went on a 15-4 run to close the half and
lead 43-31.
SBU started
the first half on a 18-5 run to take the lead at 49-48 with
15:32 remaining in the game, but the Mules regain the advantage
at 15:24, 51-49, on a layup by Brian Rhodes. The Bearcats
hung close, down by one (59-58) with 10:47 remaining, but
CMSU went on a 12-2 run to break the game open. The Mules
led by 16 (84-68) before D.J. Hogue hit a three-point shot
at the buzzer to reduce the final deficit to 13.
SBU was
led by Ryan Stock with 20 points. Also scoring in double figures
was D.J. Hogue with 18 and Marcus Jackson with 12. Stock led
the team with seven rebounds.
SBU shot
.438 from the field (28-64), .350 from the arc (7-20) and
.533 from the free throw line (8-15). SBU did not make it
to the charity strip t all in the first half.
CMSU was
led by five players in double figures: James Collins (19),
Kenan Oliver (15), Mark DeBaun (14), Jeremy McFall (14) and
Brian Rhodes (11).
The Bearcats
return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at Emporia State in Emporia, Kan. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
