- Despite outscoring the Bulldogs 17-6 during a five-minute
stretch in the second half, the SBU Bearcats could not defeat
the home team Wednesday, losing its eighth straight.
The Bearcats led 33-30 with 1:14 left in the first half when
Ahmadd Hicks hit a jumper, but TSUs Matt Beran scored
two points 24 seconds later to put the halftime score at 33-32.
SBU had the advantage.
However, after the game was tied at 40 with 17:56 on the clock,
the Bulldogs went on a 28-8 run, capped off by Gavin Welkers
three-pointer with 9:54 remaining. Truman led 68-48. SBUs
17-6 run was capped off by Ryan Stock hitting the second of
two free throws at the 4:08 mark, lifting the Bearcats to
within nine. After Jiri Mikl hit a three pointer on the next
trip down the floor, the closest the Cats would get
was 11 until Stock hit a three-pointer with 19 seconds
remaining in the game for the contests final score.
Leading SBUs cause was David Coutchie with 20 points.
Also scoring in double figures was Ashley McCormick (18),
Marcus Jackson (14), Stock (12) and Kendrick Jackson (10).
SBU was led by Stock with eight rebounds.
The Bearcats shot .492 from the field, .636 from the arc and
.533 from the charity stripe.
SBU returns
to action on Saturday, March 1 when they travel to Rolla to
face Missouri-Rolla at 7:30 p.m.
