BOLIVAR
- The Bearcats (9-14, 1-15) dropped an MIAA contest on Saturday
in Davison Field House, 83-58.
SBU lost
the game to Missouri Western (18-6, 11-5) who led at the half,
39-29.
The Bearcats
hung close for most of the first half, tying the game at 24
with 5:40 remaining when Ashley McCormick hit a three-point
shot. However, in the last three minutes of the first half,
the Griffons used a 9-0 run to end the period.
The Griffons
took off to start the second half and outscored SBU 44-29.
Ashley
McCormick led the Bearcats on his birthday with 16 points
and 11 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures was Ryan Stock
(12) and Marcus Jackson (10).
SBU started
McCormick and its four seniors on Saturday: Stock, Antwan
Butler, Dustin Jenkerson and Ed Walker. It was senior day
for the Bearcats.
The Bearcats
shot .429 from the field (21-49), .267 from the arc (4-15)
and .545 from the charity stripe (12-22).
Leading
the way for MWSC was Damon Bailey with 18 points. Larry Taylor
(12), Lynn Stevenson (12) and Tyrice Mitchell (10) also scored
in double digits for the Griffons. Mario Davis led the team
with 10 rebounds.
SBU returns
to action on Wednesday, Feb. 26 when they travel to Kirksville
to face Truman at 7:30 p.m.
