PITTSBURG,
Kan. - The Bearcats traded baskets with the Gorillas on Wednesday
in the first few minutes of the game. Then, PSU never trailed
again after going on top 7-6 at the 16:15 mark in the first
period.
The Bearcats found themselves down by as much as 19 in the
first half before Ahmadd Hicks hit a jumper to close the halftime
deficit to 37-20.
SBU shot only .290 from the field in the first half, .200
from the arc and .500 from the free throw line.
The lead for the Gorillas stayed in double digits for the
rest of the ballgame. In fact, PSU saw their biggest lead
of 23 come with 10:44 left.
Despite outscoring the Gorillas 45-42 in the second period,
the Bearcats could not overcome the big deficit left from
the first half.
SBU did use a 18-6 run in the final nine minutes of the contest
to pull within eight points after Marcus Jackson
connected on two free throws with 3:27 remaining. But SBU
would get now closer with the Gorillas scoring the games
last six points and ending with a 14 point victory.
The Bearcats were led by Jackson with 20 points. Also scoring
in double digits for SBU was Ryan Stock (16) and Ashley McCormick
(12). Stock and Jackson had eight rebounds apiece.
SBU ended the game shooting .370 from the field, .200 from
the arc (2-10) and .692 from the line.
The Bearcats
return to action on Saturday, Feb. 22 when they host Missouri
Western and Senior Day. Tipoff is at 3:30 p.m.
