Missouri State 80, Southwest Baptist 74
BOLIVAR
- After winning five straight in Davison Fieldhouse, the SBU
Bearcats (9-13, 1-13) have now dropped two straight in Bolivar
with a 80-74 loss to Northwest Missouri State on Saturday.
The Bearcats
were down 37-33 at the break, but used a 11-4 run to go up
on the green and white Bearcats with 15:33 remaining in the
game. The Bearcats later went up by seven with 9:13 remaining
when David Coutchie hit one of his four three-pointers to
put the score at 58-51.
Northwest
Missouri State then went on a 10-2 run, capped off by a jumper
from Austin Meyer that put NWMSU up 61-60 with 5:58 left.
The SBU Bearcats were held scoreless from 7:57, when Ashley
McCormick hit two free throws, until 2:34 when McCormick broke
the drought with a three-pointer to make the score 69-63 in
favor of NWMSU. Northwest made four of six free throws down
the stretch and added a layup at the buzzer by Joel Yeldell
to put the game away.
SBU was
led by Coutchie with 23 points. McCormick added 20 and Ryan
Stock 18 to the Bearcats' cause. Stock and McCormick led the
team with nine rebounds apiece.
SBU shot
.441 from the field (26-59), .391 from the arc (9-23) and
.619 from the line (13-21).
NWMSU
was led by Scott Fleming with 23 points, including 11-of-14
from the line. Also scoring in double figures was Kelvin Parker
(17) and Jesse Shaw (17). Shaw led the Bearcats with eight
rebounds.
SBU will
return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at Pittsburg State
in Pittsburg, Kan. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
