BOLIVAR
- SBU pulled out its third straight victory at home after
defeating No. 23 Pittsburg State on Tuesday, 68-65.
The Bearcats
(8-7, 4-3) were down 36-35 at the half and were down by eight
(49-41) with 15:09 to play in the game. SBU used a 10-1 run
to go ahead 51-50on a David Coutchie layup with 10:56 to go
in the second period.
The Gorillas
(12-4, 4-3) went back on top by five with 7:46 left, but SBU
never gave up, charging back to tie the game at 57 with 4:13
on the clock. This time, the Gorillas responded with a four-point
run, but SBU chisled back to a one point deficit twice, the
last time with 1:55 left (65-64).
The Bearcats
went ahead with 1:16 on the clock after David Coutchie hit
a 20-foot jumper from the right side of the basket. SBU led
66-65 when PSU's Greg Campbell missed a three-point shot with
:58 left. D.J. Hogue grabbed the rebound, Coutchie missed
the jumper with 20 seconds left, but Kendrick Jackson got
the rebound and the putback to put SBU up 68-65 with 19 ticks
on the clock.
A turnover
by PSU's Tommy Vosseler with :08 left and the steal by Jackson
sealed the victory for the Bearcats.
SBU was
led in the victory by Ryan Stock with 15 points. Arthur Trousdell
added 13 and Kendrick Jackson added 12 points. He had a team-high
10 rebounds as well.
The Bearcats
shot .483 from the floor (28-58), .333 from the arc (3-9)
and .692 from the charity stripe (9-13).
The Gorillas
were led by Cedric Brooks who scored all of his 17 points
in the first half. Jamey Richardson led the team with 12 rebounds
and was second scoring with 14 points. Vosseler added 13 points
to the Gorillas' cause.
SBU returns
to action on Saturday, Jan. 25 when the Bearcats travel to
Missouri Western for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
