BOLIVAR
- Courtesy of a turnaround jumper by Arthur Trousdell with
.7 seconds left on the clock, SBU knocked off Emporia State
on Thursday, 73-71.
The Bearcats
led at the half, 33-27.
SBU led
by 12 (43-31) with 15:44 left in the game on a dunk by D.J.
Hogue. However, Emporia State came running back with a 17-5
run and tied the game with 9:48 on the clock when Ryan Lane
hit two free throws.
The Hornets
went up 64-55 when Lane converted a three-point play the old
fashion way, hitting a layup and a free throw with 3:40 left.
SBU was
down 70-69 after Hogue hit a three-pointer with 14 seconds
left in the game.
ESU's
Robbie Ballard was fouled and went to the line with 13 ticks
left. The Hornets' best shooter, Ballard missed the front
end of a two-shot foul, but sank the last shot. ESU's lead
was 71-69.
Trousdell
tied the game for the sixth time when he hit a layup with
:03 seconds on the clock after rebounding a Ryan Stock missed
layup.
With two
seconds left on the clock, Lane was whistled for carrying
the ball and SBU got the ball back, throwing a pass in to
Ryan Stock who fed Trousdell at the right elbow of the key.
Trousdell turned around and knocked down a jumper over two
ESU players with .7 seconds on the clock.
Emporia
State again turned the ball over on a long pass that failed
and SBU inbounded the ball for the win.
The Bearcats
scored an 18-7 run to end the game.
SBU was
led by Trousdell with 23 points. DJ Hogue added 22 while Ryan
Stock finished with 11. Stock led the team with eight rebounds.
SBU shot
.500 from the field (29-58), .500 from the arc (8-16) and
.778 from the charity stripe (7-9). The Bearcats outrebounded
ESU 39-25.
SBU returns
to action on Saturday, Jan. 18 at Northwest Missouri State
in Maryville. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m. Due to scheduling
conflicts, the game will not be heard on the radio.
