Men's Basketball Assistant Coach
Johnson and Guiot have combined to win two championships in the past three seasons. In the 2005-06 season, Johnson helped SBU to a 27-5 record and their first MIAA regular season and tournament championship since the 1991 season. In his first season at the SBU, Johnson helped turn around the Bearcat program, helping them to their first winning season in 10 years. For his efforts, Johnson was awarded the “SBU Newcomer of the Year” award. Johnson had a stellar NCAA Division I and II career as he played three years at Southern Utah and finished his career at Bemidji State. In only one year at Bemidji, he was named to the all-NSIC Honorable Mention team. In the NSIC semifinal game, he nailed seven three-pointers for a NSIC record in a 79-78 overtime loss to MSU-Moorehead. For his performance, he was named to the NSIC all-tournament team, the first Beaver to ever be recognized in the tournament. He was also the team captain and led the Beavers to a 20-10 record.
He finished the season first in minutes per game (30.7), and total assists (114), second in total steals (46), three-point percentage (.425), scoring (13.5), and third in three-pointers (54) and rebounding (3.2). While at Southern Utah, he was a member of the 2001-02 team that made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the history of the University and was also the team captain. Johnson was married to his wife, Brittany, in June 2005.
