ST. JOSEPH, MO. ... Southwest Baptist (8-9 / 2-6 MIAA) found themselves playing catch up almost the entire afternoon after the Griffons of Missouri Western (11-6 / 5-3 MIAA) went on a 21-3 statement run that lasted over six minutes in the first half and went on to win 81-67.
After coming off of a career high 33 points versus Pittsburg State earlier in the week, MWSC guard Demarius Bolds had a stat stuffing performance with game highs of 22 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, and two steals.
Two other Griffons scored in double figures as forwards Langston Grady chipped in with 20 points and Jason Warren poured in with 16. Missouri Western as a team shot the ball as well as any team could hope, shooting 51% for the game from the field.
SBU again found themselves in a positive situation in the beginning of the game by holding the Griffons to only 5 points in the first five minutes, but then MWSC put Southwest Baptist into a talespin they couldn't get out of with the 21-3 run that changed the entire game and from there the Bearcats never led again.
Junior Rommel Colina set a new career high with 17 points, shooting 6-10 from the field including 3-6 from beyond the arc. Martez Young contributed with 12 points and 5 rebounds including four offensive rebounds.
As a team, SBU shot the ball poorly for the fourth straight game, shooting only 39% from the field, only 22% from the three-point line, and 57% from the free throw line. The Bearcats also committed 20 turnovers, which translated into 23 Missouri Western points.
Southwest Baptist finally returns home to the newly renovated Meyer Sports Center to take on Truman State (4-12 / 0-7 MIAA), who is still searching for their first win in conference. The game is on Tuesday, January 25th and tipoff is slated at 7:45 pm.
