BOLIVAR, MO. …The rims were rocking in the Meyer Sports Center as Cedric Ousley canned a three-pointer with only 1:25 left in the game to push the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats (4-2) over the edge and to a 77-74 win over Drury University. Ousley's three-pointer put SBU up for good, 72-71, after SBU had been down by as many as four points just four minutes earlier.

Four SBU players were in double figures with Deon Davis leading the way. He had 18 points while Sheldon Pace recorded 17 points and both Rommel Colina and Cedric Ousley had 14 points. Chris Schulze was the leading rebounder with five rebounds. Drury's Frank Bennett had 16 points.

In the first two minutes of the game, SBU took a 5-0 lead only to see Drury come back and tie it at five only five minutes into the game. After Drury tied the game at seven, SBU went on a 9-3 run to take a six-point lead, 16-10, with 12:48 to go in the first half. Drury cut the lead to three only to see SBU again make a run. In a four minute time span, SBU put together an 11-2 run to take a 12-point lead, 28-16, at the 6:13 mark. Just before half, the Panthers had a 7-2 run to come within six at halftime, 40-34. The first half was stretched to the limit as each team committed 15 personal fouls.

SBU kept their lead at a distance in the second half. With 14:49 to go, SBU had a seven point lead but a spark was lit on the DU side of the ball. In the next seven minutes, the Panthers came alive on a 19-7 run to over take the momentum and the game. With 7:17 to go, Chad Fleming hit a layup to give DU a four-point lead, 63-59. DU had never had the lead in the game until the 8:20 mark on a Brandon Kimbrough jumper.

With 4:56 left, DU still had a four-point lead. In a minute and a half, SBU ran up a 6-0 run to retake the lead, 69-67. Davis gave SBU the lead back with 4:20 left on a massive three-pointer. DU scare SBU again at the 1:43 mark on a Kevin Thomas layup for the one-point lead, 71-69, but Ousley answered the call on a three-point basket just 20 seconds later to put SBU up for good. SBU then turned up the defense even more in the final minute to secure the win.

After just shooting 37% in the first half, SBU shot 47% in the second half to finish at 42% overall. DU came away with 54% from the floor and 44% from beyond the arc. SBU went 10-28 from three-point range for 35%. DU massively out rebounded SBU, 39-25, but SBU forced 27 DU turnovers and had 14 steals.

SBU will be back in action on December 6 when they travel to Edwardsville, Illinois, to take on Southern Illinois University at 8 p.m.
