SBU Men's Basketball Quotes vs. Ozark Christian

November 15, 2004

Stan Johnson - Assistant Coach

Who shined for you tonight in the win over Ozark Christian ?

"We think everybody played well. I don't think there is one guy who didn't play good. Chris Schulze played 16 minutes and had 12 rebounds and Sheldon Pace had nine assists in the first half. It was a good group effort. We thought everybody came in and played hard. That is what you want to see in the first night."

Are you happy with this performance ?

We are happy with this performance. It is tough to gage. You want to keep yourself improving without making the other team feel bad. We feel good about it. I don't think there is anything else we would change. Our effort was good and that is something we preach everyday is effort. We saw a lot of guys that were unselfish and we played hard and everybody shared the ball."

How much has the team come together after the two exhibition games ?

"We have come together. We are starting to grow and learn different things. You could see the growth tonight and we are slowly getting there. We are a long ways away but we are taking steps in the right direction."

Head Coach Jeff Guiot

How did you feel about tonights win ?

"Our kids played hard. We are trying to get better for the next game. You can't look at the score but you have to play each play like it is zero to zero. We are working on discipline."

How far have you come since day one of practice; Are you where you want to be ?

"No, we have a ways to go. We have two games this weekend and we are playing the Colorado School of Mines that took the University of Wyoming to overtime and Mesa State has all their guys back from last years NCAA Tournament team. So, we have two very tough ball games coming up this weekend."

Who really stuck out there tonight for you ?

"I think it was our overall team defense. Our team was also very unselfish when playing. I thought our team played for each other and not themselves tonight. If we continue to do that at both ends of the floor we are going to be a pretty tough team to wreckon with."
