SBU Men's Basketball Quotes vs. CSM & MSU

November 20, 2004

Head Coach Jeff Guiot quotes on the weekend,

“I think over the weekend, I thought it was very healthy for us. You find out a lot about ourselves, a lot of our weaknesses, and things and areas that we need to improve upon. This is a young team, in terms of playing with each other and understanding really what it takes to win at the Division II level."

“Mesa State was another team that went to the (NCAA) tournament last year and had all their guys back and you can tell that they have played together in previous years."

“We played like a collection of talent, no real team unity, playing together as a unit and once we do that, we’ll have a great team."

“This weekend, we saw flashes and saw some things that we liked, but our consistency level has got to improve. We had signs that we really looked sharp, but we’re so inconsistent with our play right now, it’s a 40-minute basketball game. Consistency wins at this level. Everyone is going to play good and have spurts in parts of a basketball game, but it’s the team that’s the most consistent that’s going to win."

“Our goal is to have this team sharp come January and February. We’re not panicking at this point, but there are some things that we need to iron out and get on the same page."

“I thought that Chris Schulze played about as good as he could play. I was very pleased with Chris. He tried to play the right way, put the team first."

Regarding the ejection vs. CSM,

“Basically I’m here to battle for our kids. Did I handle it in the right, appropriate way? That’s debatable, but I’m going to fight my kids. If I’m not in their corner, then no one’s in their corner. It’s one of those things that you live and learn, but my heart was in the right spot and I probably could have handled it better."
