Jarrett Brown
Jarrett Brown made four three-pointers on his way to 16 points.

BOLIVAR, MO. ... Shooting 58% in the second half, #10 Washburn University (15-0/7-0) ran their nine-point halftime lead to a 22-point victory over host Southwest Baptist University (3-13-/0-7), 84-62, in the Davison Field House. SBU had cut the lead to nine, 41-32, at halftime before WU went 18-31 from the field in the second half.

With the win, Washburn extends it season opening win streak to 15 and its series winning streak over SBU to 12 games. The last time SBU defeated the Ichabods was in the 1995-96 season.

Opening up the first half with four points in just over a minute and a half, WU looked like they were going to run away with the game. Brown answered quickly that SBU would not go away easily as he nailed a three-pointer to make it 4-3. SBU then tied the game at six and eight points but couldn't take the lead. After the first tie at six, SBU took the defensive rebounded but handed it right back over to WU on a turnover. The Ichabods, in the next four minutes, took an eight-point lead on a 10-2 run. At the 12:26 mark it was 18-10. Two straight Trousdell jumpers put the WU lead back at four-points, 18-14. Once again WU answered back with a tiny run, 10-4, to take their first double-digit lead (10 points) 28-18.

SBU did not pack their bags to leave as two three-pointers in a 30 second span by Cedric Ousley and Brown put the Bearcats back within four, 28-24. The Bearcats then missed their next three shots over the next three minutes as WU nailed a three-pointer and a layup for a nine-point lead. Consecutive layups by Marcus Jackson on fast breaks cut the lead to five, 37-32, with 1:48 to go in the half. WU made their last two shots of the half for a nine-point lead, 41-32.

Washburn opened the second half with a 13-4 run to put the game out of reach in the first five minutes, 55-36. The Bearcats never recovered. With 9:09 left, WU made it a 20-point game, 66-46, and took a 21-point lead three different times.

WU's Travis Robbins came off the bench to lead all scorers with 18 points. He also led the Ichabods with eight rebounds. WU had five players in double figures. SBU's Jarrett Brown had 16 points and seven rebounds to led the Bearcats. Arthur Trousdell recorded a season high 13 points and five blocks. WU's bench outscoured SBU, 40-10.

Overall WU shot 50% from the floor and 70% from the free throw line. SBU shot a dismal 37% from the floor, 25% from three-point range, and 62% from the stripe. WU also out rebounded SBU, 46-27.

The Bearcats will continue to look for their first MIAA win as they host Missouri Western at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 24th in the Davison Field House.
