| SECOND HALF SURGE BY #2 NWMSU PUTS LID ON SBU'S COMEBACK

BOLIVAR, MO. ... #2 Northwest Missouri State University (18-1/9-1) improved their shooting in the second half and didn't let the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats (5-14/2-8) back into the game, 81-61. NWMSU shot 66% from the floor, 55% from three-point range, and 84% from the free throw line to seal the win.
NWMSU improved their shooting percentage by 14% in the second half and their three-point percentage by 28%.
Jarrett Brown led the team in scoring with 21 points. Arthur Trousdell had 18 points and six rebounds. NWMSU's Kelvin Parker led all scorers with 25 points while Austin Meyer added 22.
In the first five minutes of the game, SBU had a four point lead, 11-7. David Henderson opened up the scoring with a steal and then sealed it off with a dunk to make it 2-0. NWMSU quickly took the lead in less than two minutes, 12-11, on a Jesse Shaw three-pointer. They extended the lead to four, 17-13, before SBU scored seven unanswered points to retake the lead, 20-17, with 9:02 to go in the half.
Again, NWMSU did not go away as they slowly retook the lead with 5:43 to go, 21-20, on another Shaw shot. His shot put NWMSU in the lead for good as they take a six-point lead into halftime, 33-27.
A quick layup in the first 20 seconds of the second half cut the lead to four, 33-29, but NWMSU put together a 12-1 run to take command of the game, 45-30, with 16:20 to go. SBU did get the lead back down to eight, 60-52, on a Jackson jumper, but NWMSU was too much to handle as they had another run, 12-3, for a 72-55 lead. SBU could not get any closer as NWMSU went on for a 20-point victory.
SBU was outrebounded by NWMSU, 34-25, and had 13 turnovers. SBU shot 41% from the floor while NWMSU ended up hitting 54% from the floor and 40% from three-point range.
SBU will host Truman State University at 7:45 p.m. on Monday, February 2nd, in Davison Field House.
