MARYVILLE, MO. ...The #4 Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats (10-0/1-0) show why they were ranked in the top 5 in the nation with a 20-point win over the visiting Southwest Baptist University Bearcats (3-7/0-1), 85-65. NWMSU took a 12-point lead in the first nine minutes of the game and never looked back.
Senior Jarrett Brown put up 19 points for SBU in the loss while David Coutchie added 12 and Cedric Ousley 10. Both Arthur Trousdell and Chris Schulze had six rebounds.
The Bearcats of SBU played with the Bearcats of NWMSU for the first five minutes of the game. SBU took a two-point lead, 4-2 in the first minute of the game but the NWMSU answered right back to take the lead at the 17:24 mark. SBU stayed within one point until the 14:13mark when NWMSU got really hot from the floor and went on a 29-4 run over eight minutes to put the game out of the reaches of SBU. At the 6:03 mark, NWMSU had taken a 26-point lead, 41-15, and started to control the tempo of the game. At one point in that run, NWMSU was shooting 75% from the three-point line. NWMSU took a commanding 25-point lead, 51-26, into the locker room at halftime.
The second half brought an early run by SBU to cut the lead to 15, 53-38, in the first five minutes but once again NWMSU showed everybody why they were ranked so high with another run (13-0) in just two minutes to put the lead back at 28-points, 66-38. SBU did get the lead down to 19 one more time at the 9:07 mark but NWMSU did not let their lead slip under 20 points again the rest of the game.
SBU shot 39% from the floor, 40% from three-point range, and 81% from the foul line. They were outrebounded by 10 (39-29) and turned the ball over 20 times.
