BOLIVAR, MO. ...
Three last second chances for Missouri Western State College (8-9/2-6) did not fall as the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats (4-13/1-7) held on for their first MIAA win, 73-72. This was only the second win vs. the Griffons in since the 1991-92 season. SBU won in the 2001-02 season.
Jarrett Brown canned 22 points on his way to leading all scorers as David Hendersons added 14 points and Arthur Trousdell picked up his first double-double of the season at 10 points and 11 rebounds. His 11 rebounds was a season-high. Fred Battles had 18 points for MWSC.
The Griffons took the lead early and kept it for most of the first half. At the 13:47 mark, they were up seven, 15-8. At this point, SBU regrouped and put together a run that would put them in the lead. Over the next seven minutes, the Bearcats had a 16-5 run for a four-point lead, 24-20, at the 5:50 mark. They kept this lead between three and six points until halftime, 35-29.
SBU came out charged up in the second half on a 11-7 run to extend their lead to 11, 46-35. They pushed the lead to 13-points, 53-40, with 14:48 to go on a Henderson alley-oop dunk from Trousdell. MWSC slowed SBU's momentum in the next three minutes on a 15-4 run to cut the lead to two, 57-55. SBU answered right back with seven straight points of their own to go back up by nine, 64-55, at the nine minute mark.

MWSC did not go away so easily with another run that lasted four minutes on a 9-0 run to tie the game at 64 with 5:14 left in the game. There were four ties over the next four minutes as the lead kept changing hands. With 2:06 to go, Trousdell hit two key free throws to tie it for a third time. He then hit one of two free throws with 1:21 left to give SBU a one-point lead, 71-70. With 00:58 to go, MWSC's Justin Collins nailed two free throws to give them back the lead, 72-71. Brown took things into his own hand with 00:38 left in the game when he drove in for a layup and the lead for good, 73-72. MWSC missed a shot with 00:10 to go but the ball went out of bounds off a SBU player. A time out by the Griffons set up a play for the win but three shots in 10 seconds did not go in.
SBU shot a phenomenal 52% from the floor and 41% from beyond the arc. They shot 64% in the second half and 57% from three-point range. They were out rebounded by one, 32-31 and had 21 turnovers.
