TOPEKA, KS. ... In the final day of action, freshman Clay Brandenburgh improved three strokes from his opening round 79 to finish in 20th place overall at the Washburn Invitational. Southwest Baptist (303) improved from eighth to seventh place to finish the tournament, finishing just three strokes short of sixth place Lincoln University. The Bearcats did finish better than MIAA rivals Truman State and Pittsburg State.
The Washburn #1 team ended up winning the tournament with a combined score of 590, thirteen better than the #2 WU team (603) and sixteen shots better than third place Central Missouri State (606).
Brandenburgh led SBU with a combined score of 155, but Nick Layman (156) finished just one stroke behind placing him in a tie for 23rd place overall, and Mike Martinez shot a combined 157 to finish 28th place in the tournament.
