SBU TAKES 10TH PLACE AT MISSOURI WESTERN

ST. JOSEPH, MO. ... Dusty Smith and Nick Layman tied for third place, just one shot off of being the medalist, leading the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats (309-316=625) to a 10th place finish at the Missouri Western Invitational held at the Fairview Country Club. Smith (72-72) and Layman (69-75) both finished with a two day total of 144.
Chris McGown (Washburn) defeated Travis Minzel (Nebraska Wesleyan) in a playoff to claim first place. Both McGown (72-71) and Minzel (71-72) shot at 143.
Washburn University won the tournament with a score of 585 (294-291). They took first by three shots over Nebreska Wesleyan (284-304=588).
Also competing for SBU was Tim Speer (66th / 83-87=170), Mike Martinez (t67th / 90-82=172), and Tyler Gripka (71st / 85-91=176).
SBU next meet will be April 12 - 13 at the Iron Horse in Kansas City.
