SBU CHALKS UP 14 RUNS IN FIRST GAME

BOLIVAR, MO. ... Getting back to their winning ways, Southwest Baptist University took game one from the University of Missouri-Rolla, 14-8, to improve to 15-14-1 on the year and 3-6 in the MIAA. The second game was suspended due to the darkness and will be picked up on April 26 in Rolla.

Game 1 - SBU 14, UMR 8
Breaking their losing streak in a fashionable way, SBU scored 14 runs in game 1 to take the win, 14-8.
Eric Beal started things off on the right path when he nailed the very first pitch he was thrown in the bottom of the first for a home run over the left field fence.
Spencer Wilkins made it 2-0 in the second inning when he came home on a passed ball.
SBU then had back-to-back six run innings to make it 14 runs. In the bottom of the third inning, Jason Hines singled in Caleb Stark and then Baggett brought home a run with a double. Jesse Dzuirawiec and Baggett scored on an errors and then Kevin Miller tripled to center field bringing home Robby Hallock and Beal.
Dzuiraweic brought home the first run on an error and then Baggett hit the grand slam to make it 13-2. Three batters later, Miller knocked his ninth home run of the year over the left field fence to make it 14-2.
UMR added one run in the sixth inning and the scored five runs in the top of the seventh to make it 14-8. Drew Osborne improved to 3-3 on the year as he went four innings and struck out five batters. Stephen Read took the loss.
Beal and Miller each had three hits as Beal almost hit for the cycle missing out on a triple. Baggett led the team with five RBI as Miller added three.

Game 2 - UMR 5, SBU 1 Suspened
Missouri-Rolla was up on SBU, 5-1, in the bottom of the fourth when the game was suspended due to darkness.
UMR had a three-run first inning and then made it 4-0 in the top of the second.
SBU picked up one run in the bottom of the second when Beal singled home Spencer Wilkins. UMR then added one more run in the top of the fourth when the game was suspended.
Janson Hines went 3.2 innings and allowed eight hits and five earned runs while John Facteau picked 0.1 innings before the game was suspended. |
