SBU BELTS BULLDOGS

BOLIVAR, MO. ... Taking advantage of the win blowing out of the stadium, Southwest Baptist cranked three home runs en route to a 13-3 win over Truman State. SBU is now 19-19-1 on the year and 7-11 in the MIAA. Drew Osborne recorded seven strikeouts and had a three-hit shutout until the seventh inning. SBU gave up three unearned runs in the seventh.

With a 10-run rule effect in a nine-inning game for the MIAA, SBU finished the game early as they scored three runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to end the game. TSU had three unearned runs in the top of 7th inning to cut the lead to seven, 10-3, but SBU scored three in the bottom to end the game.
Eric Beal walked with the bases loaded to bring in Jason Hines for the first run and then Josh Baggett singled in both Robby Hallock and Spencer Wilkins.
SBU took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Wilkins grounded out to score Skyler Powers. SBU then had a powerful 5th inning where they put up seven runs. Hines started off the inning with a 380 foot home run over the right field fence and trees. Wilkins answered right back as the next batter slamming another home run and breaking the SBU single season record for team home runs. Two batters later, Beal hit a two-run home run to score the third and fourth runs of the game. Powers and Seth Burrell each brought in one run and then Hines picked up his second RBI of the inning on a sacrifice fly.
SBU added two more runs in the sixth when Baggett ground out to bring home Hallock and Caleb Stark tripled to score Kevin Miller.
Osborne pitched the complete game to improve to 4-5 on the year with seven strikeouts. He did not give up an earned run, either. Beal and Baggett each had three RBI for SBU.
SBU will finish the series with TSU on Saturday, April 23, starting at 12 p.m. in a double header.
