MWSC TAKES GAME ONE OF THREE GAME SERIES

BOLIVAR, MO. ... In a single nine inning game, Southwest Baptist could not overcome an early 6-1 Missouri Western lead as the Griffons took the first game of the series, 10-6. SBU and MWSC will play a double header on Saturday, April 9 beginning at 12 p.m.

MWSC 10, SBU 6
MWSC scored four runs in the first five innings before SBU even put a run on the board. The Bearcats scored one in the bottom of the fifth inning when Eric Beal doubled home Josh Baggett.
MWSC added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to make it 6-1 but SBU did bring in one more run in the bottom of the inning. Kevin Miller came home on a passed ball for the second run of the game.
Once again, MWSC answered right back with four runs in the top of the next inning. SBU could not keep up with the Griffons run production but did score three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Baggett smashed his second home run of the year for two runs and then Robby Hallock singled to left centerfield, bringing home Beal.
One more run was scored for SBU in the bottom of the ninth when Miller singled home Baggett.
Baggett led all batters as he went 3-of-4 with two RBI and one home run. Four SBU batters had two hits and Beal, Hallock, and Miller each had an RBI.
Dustin Childress took the loss as he fell to 5-4 on the year while Clint Gilliland picked up the win for MWSC. |
