BOLIVAR, MO. ... Improving their record to 12-8-1, Southwest Baptist swept Central Methodist in a double header winning the first game in a nail biter, 5-4, and then pounding CMU, 15-5, in the second game. Three home runs were in in two games with Spencer Wilkins belting two of them. Wilkins went 4-of-6 in in two games with three RBI.

Game 1 - SBU 5, CMU 4
The Bearcats got off to a rough start allowing two runs in the first two innings. SBU cut CMU's lead to one, 2-1, in the bottom of the third when Eric Beal singled home Wilkins. SBU then added two runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Freshman Robby Hallock drove in both runs with a double down the right field line.
SBU's lead did not last long as the Bearcats gave up two runs in the top of the sixth inning to fall behind, 4-3.
CMU took the lead into the bottom of the seventh but it did not last long as Wilkins led off the inning with a solo home run to left field to tie the game at four. Robby Hallock was hit by a pitch as he headed to first with no outs. After Eric Beal popped out for out number one, Hallock was the second out as Jesse Dziurawiec hit into a fielder's choice. With two outs and a runner at first, Miller ended the suspense when he tripled to center field, bringing home Dziurawiec for the come from behind win.
John Facteau picked up the win as he pitched the final two innings. He did not give up any runs and had one strikeout. Drew Osborne started the game and went 5.0 innings with four strikeouts and four runs.
Wilkins went 2-for-2 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Game 2 - SBU 15, CMU 5

It was a slugfest for SBU in game two as the Bearcats hammered out 12 hits and 15 runs. SBU scored seven runs in the second inning and then six runs in the third to take a 13-0 lead.
Jason Hines started off the second inning with a solo home run, his fourth of the year, to score SBU's first run. SBU's second run came in when Hallock was walked and then Josh Baggett broungt home Chris Martin when CMU's shortstop committed an error for a 3-0 score. Kevn Miller made it 7-0 when he doubled to right field to bring home both Wilkins and Martin.
The third inning brougth six more runs to make it 13-0. SBU's first run was scored by a CMU error and the the second run was brought home when Miller was hit by the pitch. Skyler Powers walked to score the third run and then Seth Burrell was hit by the pitch for the fourth run of the inning. The fifth run cam in on a Chris Martin single and Powers came across the plate for run number six when Wilkins reached base on CMU's third error of the inning.
CMU did not turn over and give up as they added their first three runs of the game in the top of the fourth inning and then made it 13-5 in the fifth inning, scoring two runs. SBU extended the lead to 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth when Wilkins smacked his second homerun of the day.
Hines improved to 1-1 on the year as he went five innings with six strikeouts and five runs. Mike Cutler and Beau Davis each pitched one inning. Seth Burrell went 2-of-3 with one RBI while Miller was 2-of-4 with three RBI.
SBU will travel to Joplin on March 19 for the opening of MIAA play as they take on Missouri Southern at 1 p.m. |
