SBU EARNS SPLIT WITH ARKANSAS TECH

BOLIVAR, MO. ... Southwest Baptist (5-5-1) got a little bit of redemption by winning one of two games against Arkansas Tech (6-7), 4-3 in game one. The Wonder Boys swept SBU two weeks ago in Russellville, AR. Kevin Miller hit his fourth home run of the season.

Spencer Wilkins hit the game winning double in the bottom of the sixth with two outs to give the Bearcats the comeback victory.

Game 1

Sophomore Spencer Wilkins connected on the game winning two-run double in th bottom of the sixth inning with two outs.

After being down 3-0 by the top of the third inning, Danny Malone settled down and struck out the side in the fourth and did not allow another hit for his first win of his collegiate career.

Eric Beal went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Bearcats and improved his batting average to .310 on the season. Kevin Miller also went 2-for-3 on the game including his third double of the season.

Mike Cutler came in relief for Malone and shut down the side in the top of the seventh for his first save of the season.

 

Game 2

Kevin Miller hit is fourth home run of the year and fourth in four games.

Kevin Miller continued his amazing hot hitting by connecting on his fourth home run of the season and fourth home run in the last four days in the bottom of the first inning to right center field.

Trying to fight rigid weather conditions and Arkansas Tech took its toll on the Bearcats as the team committed a combined five errors that resulted in four unearned runs including three in a five run seventh inning for the Wonder Boys.

Jason Hines pitched six strong innings, giving up four earned runs, and not walking a single batter. John Facteau came in for relief in the top of the seventh striking out one.

Bradley Stew of Arkansas Tech hit his fourth home run of the season to lead off the fourth inning.

Robby Hallock finished the game 2-for-3 for Southwest Baptist.

SBU will be home on Saturday, March 5, when they host Graceland University at 12:00 pm for a doubleheader.
