RUSSELLVILLE, AR. ... Southwest Baptist University was overpowered by the Wonder Boys of Arkansas Tech on Wednesday afternoon, falling twice 9-3 in the first game and 7-2 in the latter. This was the fifth game in six days the Bearcats had played in the Razorback state including last week's games at Harding.
Game 1
Drew Osborne pitched a no-hitter all the way into the fifth inning before Arkansas Tech got the better of the senior from Wellington, Missouri. Osborne struck out three in 5 1/3 innings of work.
Spencer Wilkins started the top of the seventh with a solo homerun down the left field line to prevent the shutout, then two batters later Jason Hines connected on a two-run homer to right center field to make it 9-3, but the Bearcats would come no closer. The homerun for Hines is his second of the season and second consecutive game he has homered in.
Osborne took the loss for the Bearcats and in relief, Beau Davis struck out two of the three batters he faced in the bottom of the sixth, and John Facteau also saw action.
Game 2
ATU's Jim Talley pitched a three-hit complete game to complete the sweep of SBU. Caleb Stark drew a bases loaded walk to bring in the Bearcats first run of the game in the top of the seventh and Skyler Powers scored on a Spencer Wilkins infield tap to prevent the shutout.
Southwest Baptist's Danny Malone took the loss for the Bearcats after pitching 3 1/3 innings of work. Mike Cutler and J.R. Smith also pitched in relief.
Next up for SBU will be their first home game of the season as they host Hannibal LaGrange College on Saturday, February 19 at noon.
