    Brent Good

    On April 1, 2005, Brent Good was promoted to director of athletics at Southwest Baptist University. He had served the previous two years as the assistant athletics director for compliance, marketing and game management.

    Dr. C. Pat Taylor said of Good when he was promoted, "Southwest Baptist University is fortunate to have a man on staff like Brent Good who has experience with a variety of positions in athletics. He is well respected by members of the faculty and staff throughout the campus and has established a great relationship with the coaches and the Bolivar community. In his time at SBU, he has demonstrated the work ethic and personality to do an outstanding job as the director of athletics and I look forward to working with him and continuing the progress of SBU athletics in the years to come."

    Good came to SBU in 2002 and served as the assistant athletics director until 2004 when he was promoted to associate athletics director. He has also served as the compliance coordinator, marketing and promotions director, has overseen gameday management, and has been the SBU facilities coordinator. He was also the SBU representative to the Bolivar Chamber of Commerce. He came to SBU from Arkansas Tech where he was the assistant athletics director for internal affairs.

    At the time of his hiring, Brent Good said, "It is an honor to serve SBU as director of athletics. I am pleased to have the opportunity to continue in the growth and development of an outstanding athletics program. It is a privilege to represent SBU, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, and the Bolivar community in this capacity."

    In his seven years at SBU, Good has added in-depth knowledge to help the athletics department grow. When he was hired, Good and the athletics department set goals to improve graduation rates and academic progress, which have occured during his time as director of athletics. Numerous SBU teams have achieved regional and/or national success and recognition while earning MIAA titles and NCAA tournament appearances. He has also improved the marketing and promotions department. He has also improved the working relationships with businesses in Bolivar which has translated into corporate sponsorships for SBU athletics.

    Prior to coming to SBU, Good spent ten years at Arkansas Tech where he was an assistant football coach and assistant director of athletics for internal affairs. He was the defensive coordinator from 1993 through 1997, then he moved into an administrative position. In his first year as a football coach, ATU won the AIC (Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference) and went to the NAIA playoffs. Then, as an administrator, he was part of the ATU women’s basketball run to the national championship game in the 1998-99 season. Good has coached at Bethany College, Wingate University, James Madison University, and Arkansas Tech.

    Good graduated from James Madison University (formerly Madison College) in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education. In 1978, he obtained his master’s degree from his alma mater in education. He was a two-sport athlete at James Madison in football and track. In 1975, he was an NCAA national qualifier for the outdoor national championships in the 800m, then, as a senior, he helped JMU to a VCAA (Virgina Collegiate Athletic Association) title with a 9-0-1 record.

    Good and his wife, Pat, have one daughter, Kelley. Pat is a teacher in the Fair Play school district and Kelley is currently enrolled at Southeast Missouri State University.
