Amber Wheeler hit a shot from half court at the buzzer to secure a 58-57 win for the Lady Bearcats.
The Lady Bearcats are now 4-0 for the season.
It was the first time SBU had beaten Northeastern State on their court.
SBU found themselves behind by 2 and without possession of the ball, forcing them to foul with 4.9 seconds left. Northeastern's Lindsey Sams missed the front end of a 1-and-1. Wheeler grabbed the defensive rebound for the Bearcats, dribbled to half court, and hit the game winner as time expired. It was Wheeler's only 3-pointer of the game.
Coach Jim Middleton characterized today's victory as a "very big win for us. This is an incredibly tough place to play. We've never won here. Nobody has much success here. Northeastern is a very good team. They are picked to win their side of the conference. But our team really fought hard for 40 minutes and never gave up - even when we were behind with seconds remaining. I'm proud of them."
Cortney Shewmaker led the scoring attack with 14. Livia Brito added 10 points and 9 rebounds. Courtney Creed also added 10 points and 9 rebounds.
This was a close game with 22 lead changes. Neither team had more than a 6-point lead for the entire contest.
The Lady Bearcats are back in action again on November 28 with an away game at Arkansas Monticello. Tipoff is at 5:30 pm.
